about

We figured it would be cool to write another ode to one of our heroes (like our song Emma about Emma Goldman on This Season Needs Torches). Rosa Luxemburg had a tough life and began her search and fight for freedom and true socialism at a young age. In 1919, at the age of 47, she was brutally murdered by the German Freikorps along with Karl Liebknecht, a fellow revolutionist. We hope Rosa’s ideas of social equality will keep inspiring people all over the world. If you want to read more about Rosa and other inspirational historical figures you should check www.marxists.org. “Those who do not move, do not notice their chains.”

lyrics

So young when you found your “way”
Settled in - then you had to flee
‘Cause you saw it with different eyes
But big change attracts enemies

They smelled your blood and claimed you dead

They caught you a couple of times
But couldn’t beat the things you had in mind
No one could take your biggest dream
The true social democracy

They smelled your blood and claimed you dead
‘Cause they recognised the truth in what you said
Put a bullet through the mouth that talks too much
- an indication that it was the right nerve
An open wound, rotting for years - begging to be touched

Ow Rosa dear –
Unrightfully they stole your years

No war could take you in
except for this one
Against the throne that led them all
the one against the Capital
Yeah, no war could take you in
Except for this one
Against the throne that leads them all
Made me want to crush
The Capital!

Sweet Empire is a politically engaged melodic punk rock band from The Netherlands. Their sound is aggressive and emotional, yet melodic and playful. Mixing elements from 80's and 90's punk rock and hardcore, it is difficult to pin this four piece down to one genre. ... more
